Sandwich Cemetery
Dundy County,
Nebraska

Elmer Case uncovering a granite stone that was placed in this area sometime back to mark the location of the abandoned Sandwich Cemetery. The square chunk of concrete with the short pipe was placed here by Elmer to mark the location because the granite stone is often covered by the forces of mother nature.
In the background is the Republican River which flooded in 1935 and destroyed the Max Cemetery and some other low-lying locations. At one time, there was a town of Sandwich that had a hotel and a few other buildings. Wood from the hotel was used to build the Wilbur Case farm home, still occupied by Elmer and his family.
I'm not sure why the people buried here were moved to other locations, but it is my understanding that no graves exist here anymore and haven't for some time.
