Funeral services for Loren Bell were at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron on July 24. Burial was in Harrison.

Loren Wilbur Bell was born January 29, 1926, at home on the ranch in Sioux County, to Perry C. Bell and Lola (Hatfield) Bell. Loren grew up learning the many things about running a farm and ranch. His father did custom threshing for many neighbors and friends around the area and Loren helped with that.

In the 1940's he worked for John Jensen in the Crawford Welding Shop, and later bought the shop and operated it for a time. He worked at the Red Cloud Refinery and later as a service technician for Kansas Nebraska Gas Co. for a few years.

He then went to work for the City of Crawford as a police officer and continued to help for special occasions for over 25 years. He worked for the Dawes County Sheriff Department. serving with every Sheriff from Les Jensen to the present Sheriff Karl Daley.

Loren was a member of the Crawford Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years and was Chief for a short time.

He served on the hospital board for two terms.

Loren was baptized and joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the 1930's. He helped with building projects and served as a deacon.

Loren married Hazel Reid April 15, 1948 in the Minatare Adventist Church . They made their home in Crawford until moving to the ranch in 1951. In October of 1957 they moved back to Crawford on Main Street where they have been ever since.

Loren learned to fly a single engine plane in the 1950's and enjoyed giving rides. His family will always remember his kindness, love, patience, honesty, sense of fairness, and his setting the example.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Perry C. Bell and Lola (Hatfield) Bell; twin sister: Lela Mae, brother: Roy L. Bell; sister: Vyonne (Bell) Baird; brother: Gene D. Bell; twin grandsons: Jeffery and Jarred Bell; and great-granddaughter: Nora Bell.

He is survived by: his wife Hazel; sons Maurice Bell and wife Mary; Mikel Bell and wife Carolyn; grandchildren Mikel A. Bell and wife Teah, Cary (Bell) and husband Jim Dunemann, Curtis Bell, Lewis (Pat) Copp and wife Tobie, sister-in-law: Betty Bell; three great grandchildren; sisters: Opal Olivas, Letha (Bell) Oldaker and husband Charles, niece: LeKila Olivas and nephew John Olivas and wife Kathy with many other nephews, nieces and cousins.
