Funeral services for John "Jack" Miller age 93 of Dodge, NE will be on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, NE. Interment will be in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will continue on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, all at the church. There will be a public vigil service on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge is in charge of arrangements.
Jack passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Parkview Home in Dodge, NE.
John Richard Miller was born on September 21, 1920 at Holyoke, CO to George and Catherine (Dolejs) Miller. At the age of four, the family moved to Nebraska and settled on the family farm Northeast of Olean. Jack attended Sacred Heart Academy at Olean. He started helping his father in the hardware store and later obtained his electrician’s license. On August 23, 1949, he was united in marriage to Dolores Peatrowsky at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer, NE. The couple lived in Dodge and continued to operate the hardware and electrical store. In 1958, they bought the Gambles franchise and continued to run Gambles Hardware and the electrical business until 1983, when they sold it to the Francis Bayer family.
Jack was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 75 years, and Knights of Columbus Council #2272 of West Point. Jack had served as the Mayor of Dodge, served on the Village Board, Dodge Fire Department and was the Fire Chief for many years.
Survivors include-
Daugther- Theresa and husband Paul Uher of Dodge, NE, two grandchildren-John Russell Wisnieski of Chicago, IL and Jayne C. Wisnieski of Omaha, NE; sister-Mary Lou and husband Marius Baumert of West Point, NE; sister-in-law-Justina Miller of Dodge, NE; and brother-in-law-LeRoy Peatrowsky of West Point, NE.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife-Dolores on May 12, 2010, brothers- Robert Miller, George Jr. and wife Patricia Miller, sisters-Mercedes and husband Jerry Ruskamp, Kathleen and husband Ambrose Ernesti, Dorothy and husband Harry Adams, a sister in infancy-Jane Francis Miller, and a son-in-law-J. Mark Wisnieski.
