Eris was born in Tobias Nebraska, daughter of Anton Fisher and Viola Gillespie Fisher. She married Donavin Frankforter in 1941. During World War II she taught school and worked at an Ordinance plant.
After Don's return from serving in the Army in Europe, they lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, where their daughter Tracy Ann was born in 1957, and son David Jon born in 1959.
Eris was a talented musician and taught both piano and guitar to many students in Lincoln when she wasn't playing and singing for her own enjoyment. She also taught herself banjo and mandolin. She continued to teach even after her initial breast cancer diagnosis in 1983, and up until 5 weeks before her death from cancer in 1997. Don missed her every day until his own death in 2016.
